COMPLETE SHUTDOWN DURING THE PANDEMIC STRUGGLE

Turkey shutdown completely between April 29th and May 17th to reduce the impact of the coronavirus epidemic. The Revolutionary Employee Unions Confederation (DISK) stated that 17 million people are exempt from complete shutdown. This number is almost the same as the population of Netherlands. The fact that so many people were exempt from the full closure caused criticism of the "for show closure" by the opposition.

The most criticized issue in the full closure was the prohibition of alcoholic beverage sales during this period. Tekel branches (stores that mainly sell alcholic beverages) protested the decision, saying that they could not understand the relevance of the alcohol ban on fighting coronavirus.

The Turkish Statistical Institute announced the inflation figures for April. Accordingly, the annual inflation was announced as 17.14 percent.

TÜRK-İŞ Confederation announced the hunger limit of a family of 4 as 2 thousand 767 TL. He pointed out that the minimum wage in Turkey is 2 thousand 825 TL, with only 58 TL more than the hunger threshold.

DEBT PROGRAM

According to the government's quarterly debt program of May-July period, a borrowing of 130 billion is targeted.141 billion TL debt payment will be made in three months. The opposition criticized, "These figures show us that Turkey will pay its debt with debt and the economy is poorly managed."

GENEVA CYPRUS INFORMAL MEETINGS

The unofficial Cyprus talks in the 5 + UN format held in Geneva, Switzerland, were dissolved without any results. At the end of the meeting, UN Secretary General Guterres said, “We could not find enough common ground for resuming official talks on the solution of the Cyprus problem. We will continue to create the best possible conditions for the next meeting.”

The difference of the talks from the previous ones was that they brought the "two-state" solution model based on sovereign equality to the table instead of Turkey and the TRNC federation. Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC) argue that the solution model is a "federation" as previously decided by the UN Security Council.
