Medium-scale earthquake triggers fear among residents
A 4.7-magnitude earthquake which struck the western province of Balıkesir’s Dursunbey district on Jan. 22 caused panic among the residents of Turkey’s Marmara region, in particular Istanbul.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said on its website that the quake occurred at 10.31 p.m. local time at a depth of around 11 kilometers. No casualties have been reported so far.

Central banks of the United Arab Emirates and Turkiye on Wednesday inked bilateral currency swap agreement.
According to a statement by the Turkish Central Bank, the nominal size of the deal is mutually 18 billion UAE dirham and 64 billion Turkish liras.
The agreement aims to enhance bilateral trade and to further strengthen financial cooperation between the two countries.

Heavy snowfall hit Turkiye’s largest city Istanbul on Monday, shuttering shopping malls, disrupting traffic, and closing a mega-airport.
After landing the city early in the morning, heavy snowfall caused traffic jams in the city’s working-class districts of Zeytinburnu, Bahcelievler, Sariyer, and Kagithane on the European side.
Some passengers as well as vehicles were stuck due to heavy snow.
